The International Network of Street Papers (INSP) has confirmed that the Global Street Paper Summit is coming to the UK in 2024 and will be hosted in Liverpool between Monday 9 and Friday 13 September.
Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of INSP, the Summit is the flagship event for all street paper staff, owners and supporters.
Due to the increased prevalence of the poverty crisis globally, more solutions are required to meet the challenges head-on. The Summit will therefore provide an opportunity for those working directly to tackle homelessness and poverty to come together, learn from each other, and to create new innovations for some of the world’s biggest challenges.
INSP is expecting a packed programme for the event, with topics including: news & journalistic practice; equality & diversity; fundraising; insights & innovations; Communications & Marketing; future plans & strategic direction; and the development of regional networks.
The Summit will involve a series of keynote speakers – from both within and outside the street paper network – as well as breakout sessions and workshops.
Sitting alongside the main Summit programme, INSP is developing a cultural programme of activities, allowing international delegates at the conference to experience all the city of Liverpool has to offer.
Mike Findlay-Agnew, Chief Executive of INSP, comments: “A core part of the ethos of the street paper movement is in our ability to get together and to think about our future direction. Given the challenges that we have all faced in recent years – including the cost-of-living crisis and the increasing challenges of homelessness and poverty in towns and cities across the world – the Summit in 2024 will provide a tremendous opportunity for street paper staff to unite in their efforts to tackle homelessness and poverty.
“The reason we choose the city of Liverpool has been partly to do with the connections that colleagues at Big Issue North, who are part of INSP, have with the area, as well as the rich history of social justice within the city. We have already gained much support from the business and cultural community in Liverpool who are keen to welcome our international delegates to the UK this September.
“The Global Street Paper Summit in 2024 is also a chance to celebrate the impact of the street paper movement as it marks the 30th anniversary of INSP. I am looking forward to a strong turnout of street paper staff at this event.”
