The INSP Awards 2016 – the annual celebration of excellence and innovation within the street paper network – are now open for entries.
The INSP Awards have been recognising excellence in street papers since 2008. This year’s awards ceremony will be held at the Global Street Paper Summit in Athens on 15 June.
INSP’s Editorial and Communications Manager, Laura Dunlop said: “Last year was a bumper year for entries and I’m sure we will see the same level of enthusiasm this year.
“It is always a delight to see the level of quality journalism, design and photography in our member street papers. The INSP Awards are our chance to tell the world about the amazing work our members produce.”
She added that the addition of the new Impact Awards last year added another dimension to the celebration: “By introducing the impact categories last year, we also had the chance to hear about the amazing diversification of street paper organisations – and the breakthroughs that really mean something to our members and the vulnerable people they support.”
More than 100 street papers across the world get the opportunity to enter the INSP Awards for free, as a benefit of their membership of the network.
The winners last year agreed it was a huge boost to go home with one of the coveted awards.
Accepting the award for Best Design at the 2015 awards gala dinner in Seattle, the Mexican street paper Mi Valedor‘s director and editor Maria Portilla said: “We’re very surprised, especially because we’re two months old! It’s very significant for us to have won this award and to be here with all of you and learn from your experience.”
Another young street paper that made an exceptional breakthrough last year in the editorial category was The Curbside Chronicle, based in Oklahoma City, which took home the award for Best Cover.
Director Ranya O’Connor said, “We are about two years old so this is just really exciting. We try to make the best quality magazine we can for our vendors.”
