INSP announces new events management opportunity

INSP has today announced a new events volunteer position offering the opportunity to gain experience in international events management.

The six-month opportunity, based in the charity’s Glasgow office, will see the successful candidate work on events management for two major projects: the Global Street Paper Summit and #VendorWeek.

For the right candidate, there will be the opportunity to go to Athens, Greece in June 2016 to directly support the INSP Summit on location.

INSP Project Manager Zoe Greenfield said: “INSP has along history of supporting Glasgow-based students and graduates though our internship and training programmes.

“We work closely with our volunteers to provide them with training, skills and opportunities to support their future career development.

“We are delighted to offer this exciting opportunity to work on our two biggest events. This is the chance to not only raise awareness of street papers in the UK, but also support our members around the world.”

Last year’s INSP Summit in Seattle brought together 120 delegates from 46 street papers in 22 different countries.

The busy event involved high profile keynote addresses, workshops, networking events, an exhibition and even a rock concert in the city’s famous Crocodile venue.

On the welcome day, many delegates visited innovative local social projects, including Seattle’s Tent City 3.

#VendorWeek is a worldwide celebration of the transformative power of street papers in the lives of homeless and vulnerable people.

International street papers run promotional events, parties for their vendors and social media campaigns to coincide with the week of action.

Last year in the UK, scores of celebrities, politicians and high profile individuals took an hour out to sell The Big Issue and Big Issue North in order to raise awareness of street papers and raise money to support INSP’s work.

Applications for this role are now open now and the closing date is Thursday 5 November.
