Thousands get involved with INSP #VendorWeek 2015
INSP #VendorWeek is an annual celebration of the 14,000 street paper vendors around the world. Each one of these men and women – in 35 countries – is using their local street paper as a way to work themselves out of poverty.
During the first week in February, our international programme of events, activities and social media action pays tribute to their hard work, as well as challenges perceptions of poverty and homelessness.
#VendorWeek 2015 celebrations took place at street papers around the world, as well as online – with thousands of people showing their support.
High profile people took on selling their local street paper in several countries, including The Big Issue and The Big Issue North in the UK, The Big Issue Australia, Greece’s first street paper Shedia, Hus Forbi in Denmark, Washington DC’s Street Sense and Swiss publication Surprise. Other papers ran special city tours, promotional campaigns, press conferences, vendor events and many more imaginative celebrations.
Online, the #VendorWeek hashtag allowed street paper supporters new and old to speak together across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. With 15.5 million timeline deliveries on Twitter, it carried the street paper message far and wide. Thank you to everyone that joined the conversation.
